The BioRevive Standard

A comprehensive clinical protocol that prioritizes lasting vitality.

## You might be searching for answers about:

Sleep that's suddenly broken — waking at 3am, unable to get back down.

Weight that's shifted to your midsection despite nothing changing.

Anxiety that arrives out of nowhere, or a low mood you can't explain.

Brain fog that makes you doubt yourself at work.

A body that feels foreign.

Cycles that are irregular, heavier, or unpredictable.

A libido that's quietly disappeared.

These aren't separate problems. They're one transition — and there's a clinical explanation for all of it.

## Your symptoms have a clinical explanation and a complete answer

Perimenopause is not a single deficit to be managed with a one-size-fits-all prescription. It is a whole-body transition that affects your hormones, gut, metabolism, brain, and cardiovascular system, often all at once, and rarely in a predictable order.

The Joyce Method begins where it should: with your hormones. For most women in perimenopause, hormone therapy is not only appropriate, it is the most evidence-supported intervention available, and establishing that foundation first is what makes everything else possible. Sleep improves. The anxiety settles. You begin to feel like yourself again.

But hormones don't work in isolation. How well they function depends on the health of your liver and gut, your metabolic health, and the long-term integrity of your cardiovascular and cognitive systems. The Joyce Method addresses all of it, in a deliberate sequence, each Waypoint building on the last, because that is what lasting results actually require.

This is not a wellness program. It is comprehensive, personalized clinical care designed for women who are done being told their labs are normal.

## The Four Waypoints

A deliberate, clinical sequence where each waypoint scientifically prepares your body for the next.

Recalibrate: Hormone Optimization

We initiate Menopausal Hormone Therapy (MHT) where clinically appropriate, guided by a comprehensive midlife lab panel and a baseline SECA body composition scan. For women who are not candidates for MHT, or who choose a non-hormonal path, we build an individualized protocol to support the same foundations.

Restore: Liver, Detox & GI Health

Your liver is your body's hormone recycling centre and your gut plays a direct role in how estrogen is metabolized and reabsorbed. In Waypoint 2, we assess your elimination pathways and gut health, then support them with a targeted, individually assigned protocol. This phase is often where women notice unexpected improvements in energy, digestion, skin clarity, and chemical tolerance.

Rebuild Resilience: Metabolic Reset

Perimenopause fundamentally changes how your body manages blood sugar, stores fat, and generates energy. In Waypoint 3, we address that shift directly with a personalized nutrition strategy, a structured movement plan built around resistance training, and clinical support tailored to what your labs and body composition data actually show. Progress is tracked with repeat SECA scanning so we can measure real change over time.

Renew Vitality: Longevity & Prevention

The decisions made in this decade shape the next three. Waypoint 4 addresses the long term risks that accompany the hormonal transition including cardiovascular health, bone density, cognitive resilience, and cellular energy with a protocol built around your full clinical picture. The program closes with a comprehensive re-assessment comparing your results to your baseline, and a personalized maintenance plan so that what you've built here lasts.

## Built in order. Because order matters.

True physiological restoration cannot happen all at once. The Joyce Method is highly structured because each step unlocks the medical success of the next.

Hormones first, always

We initiate hormone therapy where clinically indicated, and we do it first. Fluctuating hormones keep your body in a state of chronic physiological stress and until that foundation is stable, every other intervention is working against the current. This is where sleep improves, the anxiety lifts, and you begin to recognize yourself again.

Clearing the path for hormones to work

Liver and gut health in Waypoint 2 isn't a detour. It's what determines whether your hormones actually do their job. Your liver processes and clears used estrogen; your gut regulates how hormones circulate. Without supporting these pathways, even optimized hormone therapy has a ceiling. This is how we remove it.

Rebuilding your metabolic foundation

Perimenopause fundamentally changes how your body manages blood sugar, stores fat, and builds muscle and those changes don't reverse on their own. Waypoint 3 addresses this directly, with targeted clinical support, nutrition strategy, and movement guidance designed specifically for midlife physiology. Progress is measured objectively with SECA body composition scanning throughout.

Securing what you've built for the long term

Waypoint 4 is where the program transitions from feeling better to staying better. We focus on bone density, cardiovascular resilience, cognitive health, and mitochondrial function because the decisions made in this decade set the trajectory for the next thirty years. This is the layer that makes everything before it last.

## Why it's called The Joyce Method

This program is named after Dr. Breckon's grandmother, Joyce, the kind of woman who made you feel like you could accomplish anything. She was the heart of her family, and everyone who knew her felt it.

Joyce's hormone therapy was abruptly discontinued following the 2002 Women's Health Initiative study. Like hundreds of thousands of women in the years that followed, she was left without support during one of the most significant transitions of her life, based on research that has since been fundamentally reinterpreted and, in many respects, corrected.

She knew what her hormones did for her. She had felt the difference, and she would have chosen to stay on them. She wasn't given that choice.

The Joyce Method exists because that should never have happened. And because every woman deserves a clinical team that takes this transition as seriously as she does.

## Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT ARE THE MOST COMMON SIGNS OF PERIMENOPAUSE?

The symptoms women notice first are often the ones that feel hardest to explain. Waking at 3am unable to fall back asleep. Weight shifting to the midsection despite no change in diet or exercise. Anxiety arriving out of nowhere — or a low, flat mood that doesn't lift. Brain fog that makes you doubt yourself at work. Hot flashes or night sweats. Irregular or heavier periods. Low libido. Skin and hair changes. Feeling unlike yourself in a way you can't quite articulate. If any of this sounds familiar, perimenopause may be the clinical explanation — and it's worth a proper assessment.

CAN I HAVE PERIMENOPAUSE SYMPTOMS IF MY BLOODWORK IS 'NORMAL'?

Yes — and this is one of the most common frustrations we hear. Standard bloodwork often misses the perimenopause transition entirely. FSH and estradiol fluctuate significantly day to day in perimenopause, so a single reading frequently falls within normal range even when symptoms are significant. The Joyce Method uses a comprehensive midlife lab panel that goes well beyond standard hormone testing — including fasting insulin, apolipoprotein B, lipoprotein(a), HsCRP, thyroid, DHEA-S, and more — to give a complete clinical picture rather than a snapshot.

IS HORMONE THERAPY SAFE?

For most healthy women, menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) is not only safe, it is the most evidence-supported treatment available for perimenopause symptoms. The safety concerns many women carry stem largely from the 2002 Women's Health Initiative study, which has since been substantially reinterpreted. Current evidence supports MHT for symptom relief and for long-term protection of cardiovascular health, bone density, and cognitive function. Every patient in The Joyce Method is assessed individually, and hormone therapy is only initiated where clinically appropriate.

CAN A NATUROPATHIC DOCTOR PRESCRIBE HORMONE THERAPY IN ALBERTA?

In Alberta, naturopathic doctors do not have independent prescriptive authority for hormone therapy. At BioRevive, The Joyce Method is structured as a collaborative program. Dr. Tricia Breckon ND leads your clinical assessment, program design, and ongoing care, and works in partnership with our medical doctor for all hormone therapy prescriptions. This means you receive the depth of naturopathic clinical assessment alongside physician-supervised hormone therapy, within a single coordinated program.

HOW IS THE JOYCE METHOD DIFFERENT FROM SEEING MY FAMILY DOCTOR ABOUT PERIMENOPAUSE?

Most family medicine appointments are brief, and perimenopause is rarely the focus. Hormone therapy may or may not be offered, and follow-up is often minimal. The Joyce Method is a structured, multi-month clinical program designed specifically for this transition, with comprehensive lab assessment, a personalized four-Waypoint care plan, physician-supervised MHT where indicated, and ongoing monitoring at every stage. It addresses not just hormone symptoms but the metabolic, digestive, and long-term health changes that perimenopause drives, because lasting results require more than a prescription alone.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PERIMENOPAUSE AND MENOPAUSE?

Perimenopause is the transition, the years often spanning four to ten, during which hormone levels fluctuate and symptoms emerge. Menopause is the clinical marker: 12 consecutive months without a period. Most women seek support during perimenopause, when symptoms are often at their most disruptive. The Joyce Method is designed for women in this transition, though we also support women who are post-menopausal and looking for a structured approach to long-term health.

I'M IN MY EARLY 40S — ISN'T IT TOO SOON TO THINK ABOUT PERIMENOPAUSE?

Perimenopause can begin as early as the mid-30s, and most women start noticing changes in their 40s, often years before their periods become irregular. If your sleep, mood, energy, weight, or cycle have changed and nothing else explains it, it is not too early to get assessed. The earlier hormonal changes are identified and addressed, the better the long-term outcomes for bone, cardiovascular, and brain health.

WHAT DOES THE JOYCE METHOD INVOLVE?

The program begins with a comprehensive initial consultation, a full history, symptom assessment, and midlife lab panel. From there, you move through four sequential Waypoints: Recalibrate (hormones), Restore Flow (liver and gut health), Rebuild Resilience (metabolic reset), and Renew Vitality (long-term cardiovascular, bone, and cognitive health). Each Waypoint includes follow-up visits, targeted clinical support, and body composition tracking via SECA. The program concludes with a full reassessment and a personalized long-term maintenance plan.

DO I HAVE TO GO ON HORMONE THERAPY TO JOIN THE JOYCE METHOD?

No. Hormone therapy is initiated where clinically indicated, and for most women in perimenopause it is appropriate and beneficial, but the decision is always made individually based on your history, lab results, and preferences. Women who are not candidates for MHT, or who choose not to pursue it, move through a modified pathway that addresses the same four Waypoints using other evidence-supported interventions.
